Abstract art is often presented as a 20th-century European
invention. Kaleidoscope turns that on
its head and celebrates how the exploration of shape, colour and pattern have
captured our imaginations in the Pacific. At its heart is a must-see new
immersive commission by contemporary artist Tiffany Singh.
In March 2018, Te Papa opens a spacious new art gallery, Toi Art. Spanning two floors and 3980 square metres, Toi Art features new immersive and large-scale art, a suite of stunning new exhibitions – including Pacific Sisters: Fashion Activists, Kaleidoscope: Abstract Aotearoa and Lisa Walker: I want to go to my bedroom but I can't be bothered – and iconic works from the national art collection.
